Kept In Goshen 1

Study Genesis 45:1-11

Verse for Meditation: Gen 45:10-11

“You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children’s children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. “There I will provide for you, lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine.”‘

Goshen was the name of the tract of country in Egypt which was inhabited by the Israelites from the time of Jacob to that of Moses. It was a part of “the best of the land,” at least for the pastoral Hebrews, and was evidently better watered and more fertile than at present.

“that you shall say, ‘Your servants’ occupation has been with livestock from our youth even till now, both we and also our fathers,’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.” (Gen 46:34)

Goshen was a special provision made by Joseph under God for the comfort and prosperity of Israel. It was a land of their multiplication and the establishment of Israel as a nation as God began to build them into nationhood.

“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; “come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.” Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel (Exo 1:8-12)

In His wisdom, the God of Israel provided the best of the land of Egypt for His people. That God has not changed; the best is still for His children. The provision of God in all circumstances is never in doubt; the issue is, can His children trust Him enough to accept His choice and wisdom over the circumstances of their lives.

There are many children of God who will never accept to dwell in “Goshen” simply because, in their common sense, there are better alternative than the choices of God. Anything short of the choice of God for your life is a senseless and useless choice. When a man begins to rubbish the choice of God in preference to his or other people’s ideas, he will soon discover that super stupidity is the act of promoting human wisdom above divine sense.

Friend, how far can you accept the choice of God? Even if what and where God is leading you to “does not make sense”, can you still submit and say “let your will be done”, knowing fully well that He can never make mistakes?

If we acknowledge Him in all our ways and seek direction from Him before embarking on any journey, we will have the best in the land and be exempted from all the woes of our time. If we dwell in Goshen, we shall be free from famine? Is Goshen, God’s provision good enough for you or you prefer the place where Google map sends you to?
